Gingerbread Treats

The Club House Artists finished out the year with some gingerbread treats. They learned how to turn a 2D object into a 3D object by adding thickness and shading. We used the gingerbread person as an example. First they drew a flat 2d gingerbread person. Then they added thickness to the left side. To finish the drawing they added shading, shadows, and the horizon line.

Next we practiced our house building skills by drawing a Gingerbread house. They really enjoyed coming up with the different candies to decorate it with. I believe this was a low calorie, less mess way! Enjoy the holidays and keep drawing!

Everyone's dream holiday machine!

It's every parent's dream holiday machine. A present wrapping machine! The Club House Artists focused on making sure the objects they place on their boxes followed the contour lines of the box. Contour line was an important tool box word today. Oh, and Grandma must love these kids because she sent five more packages by post.

Our First Art Show!

The Club House Artists have worked so hard to prepare for the first Club House art show. They were all pleased to see their artwork matted and hung at the Village Hall. The parents were excited too. We're hoping to have many more art shows to come. This will most likely be up for the rest of this month. Go check it out if you haven't!

Holiday Spirit

Boy, it was sure nice drawing with the Club House Artists again. I missed them during the Thanksgiving break. We decided to get into the holiday spirit by warming up with a drawing of the present that grandmother sent us. All wrapped up in brown packing paper sitting on our doorstep. Can you imagine what she sent?

While we were in the present drawing mode we switched over to the North Pole and checked out how the Elves wrapped their presents. They use a super cool wrapping machine to wrap all the presents for santa.
The machines were having technical difficulties so the repair Elf had to step in and correct the issue. See if you can find him in the bottom of the machine?

Are you my mother?

When looking at today's baby dinosaur drawings, I'm reminded of the book, "Are you my mother?" We used foreshortened circles to draw an egg that had been cracked opened by our baby T-Rex.

Most of this class has never drawn a foreshortened square. The Club House Artists learned how to use their guide dots to start their foreshortened square and they turned it into a stone. They also learned about "size", another tool box word. They also created a Flintstone inspired drawing. To demonstarte size, we drew a large dinosaur that took up most of the page. Then we drew a much smaller dinosaur behind our large one creating a sense of space.

Some super awesome dinos Club House Artists!

StoneAge Dinos

The Club House Artists learned a new tool box word tonight. They learned how "size" can help they drawings have depth which creates 3D space. We decided to go with a dinosaur theme and tried drawing a baby dinosaur hatching from it's egg as a warm up. Then we discussed how to use size in a drawing. We drew a dinosaur right in front of us and made him take up the whole page and then drew a dinosaur much smaller behind him to make him look further away. We created a "Flintstone" world with our dinosaurs so we could also practice our forshorten squares and cubes. (Don't forget to click on the drawings to enlarge them.)

A Salute to our Club House Artists

A couple of our Club House Artists are on vacation visiting a tropical paradise. We decided to pretend we were there too with our pina coladas and coconuts. The Club House Artists learned about overlapping to help make their still life more interesting and 3D!

Then we also jumped into Super Mario Land and drew our own version. The Club House Artists had a lot of fun with this project. They loved adding all the characters and 1 UPS!
